Join renowned mycologist, photographer, and citizen scientist Alan Rockefeller for an immersive mushroom foray at Lucky Ranch. This hands-on experience is designed for enthusiasts of all levels—from curious beginners to seasoned mushroom hunters. Participants will be guided by Alan’s deep expertise in mushroom identification, photography, and taxonomy. Learn how to safely photograph, collect, document, and identify wild mushrooms while respecting the environment. The foray will emphasize the importance of photography and careful observation for scientific documentation on community science platforms like iNaturalist and Mushroom Observer. Alan will have support from Mandie Quark in teaching photography, sharing practical field skills and discussing the significance of citizen science. Mandie will discuss how you can submit fungi for DNA sequencing to advance mycology. Participants will leave with new knowledge, greater confidence in mushroom identification, and an appreciation for the remarkable diversity of fungi in Colorado’s landscapes. This event is a unique opportunity to learn from some of the most recognized and passionate mycologists in North America, all while enjoying the beauty of Lucky Ranch.

Lunch will be provided at the Ranch, before heading to our specialized classroom, Learning Lab.
