Welcome to
Lucky Ranch Learning Lab
Who We Are:
Lucky Ranch Learning Lab is a cooperative fungi focused permaculture project and community education center designed to help individuals engage and connect with their environment and themselves.
Reilly Steidle - Owner
I started Lucky Ranch Foraging Company in 2023 to share my love of wild food and the property I lived on, with my community. From there, I learned I loved facilitating community and experiences for others and that I cared a lot about how other people learn to interact with nature. Many locals refer to me as the “Mushroom Girl” and before I knew it I was creating a community model that complies with SB23-290.
I founded Lucky Ranch Learning Lab in 2024 as a physical space for people to join and interact with the mycology community and celebrate all that we are allowed to do in Colorado. Our classroom is founded on principles that challenge people to be more resourceful, learn introspection, and change their daily actions and habits, through their relationship with nature. I believe that the foundational balance of ecosystems and life can be taught through our relationship with fungi and other organisms, and through my classes I share my perspective and observations with others.
I’m a scientist first, and completed a successful career as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at some of the world’s best ranked hospitals. Through my experience, I learned how to rigorously practice the scientific method, and a lot about the human body and healthcare system. The research and information I continue to interpret/ utilize, as I pioneer in the mycological space, is influenced by the decade I spent in this career. I’m endlessly on the pursuit of up to date information and accurate knowledge, so I can pass it on to you!
Some people in the community remember when my efforts began as the organization Dimensional Doula. Dimensional Doula has now evolved into Learning Lab, but lives on as what I call myself when I am coaching and in spirit as we do our “magical charity work”. If you ever need anything, or help giving people access at your events in CO, I’m always here to help the community heal and I will answer any question, or point you in the right direction. Please fill out the contact page and I will contact you back as soon as I can.
Sam Wagner - Lab Manager
I began practicing mycology in 2019 after spending 17 years as a social worker. After realizing that the social welfare system was merely keeping individuals stuck in the same system that was “helping”. I quit the social work job and system that only seemed to keep those it claimed to serve stuck within the system. Unfortunately, social welfare is often times a trap, and I wanted to engage a process that allowed others to liberate themselves, not just from social welfare systems themselves but also from any exterior governance. I thought, ‘What better way to do this than to learn from fungi and work within the natural world?’
It is now my goal to create a community through mycology and other permaculture structures to help others see what they are capable of and what their natural world has to offer through a relationship with their environment. I dubbed this “myco-social work”, and I hope to bring you knowledge, confidence, critical thinking skills, and playful discovery along the way. We are all scientists. We simply have to awaken to our presence to see how.
